So you think you can tell, Heaven from Hell?

"How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here." I have had these line stuck in my head all day. These are lyrics from the song "Wish You Were Here" by the one and only Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is the extremely cool band with the extremely super cool songs. I can seriously listen to my PF albums all day, everyday, and never get sick of them. I first started listening to Pink Floyd when I was younger. My mom and sister always listened to them (you can say I have a pretty awesome family). I used to think I was the only person who listened to Pink Floyd, until I got to middle school. So many people listen to Pink Floyd and I think that is great! Pink Floyd's most popular song was "Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2". Roger Waters wrote this as a protest song. There are a lot of other songs with great meaning, so I would go listen to them. (:

Morning Tunes

Every morning I like to wake up to a little bit of music to get me ready for the day. Since waking up and getting ready for school is such a pain, I like to listen to something that will bring my mood up. Modest Modest does just the job for that. Modest Mouse is another one of my favorite indie bands. Their style of music is kind of different but is certainly worth a listen! The first song I ever heard by Modest Mouse was "Float On". I was pretty upset that I have not heard of them before that. For Christmas I got the album We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. Every song is a wonderful surprise. Once I started meeting people who also listened to Modest Mouse, I got even more obsessed with the band and bought more albums. Now, I am on a mission to see Modest Mouse live before I die!

The Fault in Our Stars

Last night I finally finished my new favorite book, The Fault in Our Stars! The story is about a young couple who met at a cancer support group. The story was great, I loved every single chapter. I'm sure that you have heard of this book by now but if not, I'd check it out! Or you can check out the movie coming out on June 6th, if reading isn't your thing. If you loved the book, you would LOVE the soundtrack to the movie. I ran into a picture on Twitter of the soundtrack to TFIOS and decided to listen to it. After listening to just a few songs, I was hooked. I couldn't stop listening to it. The soundtrack is packed with fun love songs, and, lots of catchy tunes. Some of the artists you can find on the soundtracks are Ed Sheeran, Jake Bugg, Birdy, and many more. I can't wait to watch the movie and sing along to all the songs!

After a long week of studying for tests, doing last-minute homework, and working on projects, I usually need a little break. There's no better way to relax than with some nice calm music. My all time favorite band to listen to after weeks like this is Bon Iver. Bon Iver is an indie folk band founded by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. In their music you can find tons of emotion and beautiful lyrics. In an interview Justin talks about living in a cabin and writing the debut album For Emma, Forever Ago, this album includes the popular song "Skinny Love". After purchasing the first album, I completely fell in love with Bon Iver.

Along with Bon Iver, Radical Face is another favorite of mine! This band is also an indie folk/acoustic rock band. Ben Cooper, the singer-songwriter, says that he saw the name Radical Face on a flyer but later found out that the flyer actually said "Radical face lift" with the "lift" part ripped off. Ben Cooper is a very creative musician, he seems to use lots of metaphors and personification in his songs. Ben grew up in a big family, that is his biggest influence. Although, the albums The Family Tree: The Branches and The Family Tree: The Roots are based off of a fictional family. The song "We're On Our Way" was used in the trailer for one of my favorite movies Perks of Being A Wallflower. Radical Face is an amazing band!

Music

Just like anybody else, I absolutely love music! Some of my favorite genres are 90s Alternative, Indie Rock, and, Oldies. Actually, I love almost every genre. It's hard to choose a favorite! In this blog I am going to share some of my favorite bands/artists and hopefully you will enjoy some of them. I'm going to start off with talking about two very popular bands that most of you probably heard of. The first band is Red Hot Chili Peppers, an alternative/funk rock band. You may have seen their amazing (but very short) Super Bowl performance, they played "Give it Away" from their album Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Their music is always exciting and definitely fun to listen to! My favorite song by RHCP is "I Could Have Lied" also from the Blood Sugar Sex Magik album. If you don't already listen to them, I would start now! The second band is just as great. Sublime is considered a Punk Rock band but with a little bit of Reggae and Ska! It's kind of hard for me not to love Sublime when that's all my older sister listened to when I was younger. I enjoy listening to Sublime on a nice summer day because it gets me in the best mood! If you want to learn more about any of these bands click the links!
